Today I had the privilege of attending a funeral of amazing woman of God. It was bittersweet in that we will miss this woman in our church. She had a large impact and presence in our church. She honored God with her life, and that was evident to all who knew her.
Our church Bible study is going through James, and reading it today again made me think about how faith and deeds really do go hand in hand. We need to be so affected by what God says and does in our lives that it causes us to change, to serve, to love, to endure and to persevere. We cannot just believe. If there is just belief without it spurring us on, then we only have heard with our ears but it did not truly engulf our being. God's word is active, it is inspiring, it is comforting and it is challenging.
When listening to those speaking about this dear woman, I saw how she lived by faith and in her faith she loved, served and witnessed. It was evident that these deeds were an outpouring of the spirit living in her.
This is what I want my life to be - an outpouring of the spirit. I want to be challenged each day to serve my family and community because of who I am in Christ.
